It’s your 4AM fantasy. Your post lunch work daydream. It’s the little moments that you’ve been adding to a secret to-do list since you were six years old. It’s your wildest dream.
My collection of moments is on the surface level, just a collection of cliches. My research for the list was assembled from various sappy young adult films. Thankfully I’ve removed ‘Make out with a sparkly vampire’ but ‘Be serenaded’, is defiantly still on there.
It’s the little moments I’ve seen in the movies that get me through a long shift at work.
Maybe someone will kiss me in the rain, and naturally we will be wearing white shirts and the rain will be soaking through the linen and into our skin and hair.
Maybe, I’ll get back from one of my adventures and someone I love will be waiting for me at the end of the airport. It will obviously have to be a dramatically long corridor and when I drop my bag to run to them, hopefully no one will steal it. Maybe they have a cardboard sign and flowers, or maybe they are sweaty because in these moments usually theres a lot of running going on and maybe they’ve just been running to meet me.
None of these moments though compare to the one fantasy I never tell anyone about.
It’s more of a feeling than a scene.
It’s a cloudy day with rain starting to fall. It’s a afterwork shopping trip in a tired mall. It’s little hands holding mine. It’s food cooking quietly in the background and the smell wafting over the tiny, cramped, but well loved kitchen. It’s a peaceful mundanity, that I finally would let myself enjoy.
