What do you write about a girl who you know will be a muse for our very history books?
Who you know will inspire thousands of love songs, probably a few angsty heartbreak ones as well, and millions of novels.
She is the girl from your books, she’s the fearless protagonist from your favourite movies. She is beautiful, elegant and beyond graceful, but she farts like a sick mofo.
She looks so lovely in her flowery dresses, but would never let the floral pattern hold her back from finishing first in a sprint race. She is Diane from my Greek childhood story. She would run her own race, collect her own apples, and win the right to her own heart before she let anyone else do it.
She has potential leaking out from under her skin, practically suffocating her small town. People like her, can’t survive in places like this. Places like this, would drown her in an obscene reality. A reality that’s not true. A reality in which she never gets to live to her full potential, breathe her dreams and catch the stars she’s been wishing on since she was a child.
So she had to go.
I feel the excitement tingling in my vains, when I look at her and see all the possibilities she will definitely possess in her lifetime.
She’s one of the people that I know will leave a mark on the worlds heart. She’s somebody that I will enjoy name dropping at dinner parties and tell endless stories about to bored grandchildren.
I hugged her goodbye, after one of our 4am nights, I couldn’t help but to feel very much alone. She hadn’t even properly left yet, and already the darkness was drowning me. I felt like I should run back to her, pull her into yet another hug, this time just not let go.
Very rarely do you meet people that set your soul on fire. Whose minds you understand how to navigate, like the path from your five year old bedroom to the bathroom, late at night. Who give you courage and make you kind, but also make you grow. Who do not try to suffocate your flames, for fear your light will shine brighter than theirs. Who instead feed your fire with a fury and inspire a blaze of dedication that has the potential to drown out the sun.
I’m eternally grateful that fate, destiny or even just coincidence, blessed us with the correct timing. And I feel breathless when I think of all the wars we can win, fighting for the same team and all the stories we can tell, each in our own unique and un-filtered way.
It’s ridiculously reassuring to know that there are those people out there in the world. To know that no matter how isolated in your worldview and ideas you feel, there are people out there who just ‘get it’.
Sometimes, souls just click.
No matter how far we adventure individually, physically, intellectually or spiritually, the stars have entangled our stories and I will work damn fucking hard to make sure we remain tangled up together.
Here’s to soulmates and the stories you can tell together..!
